Reading financial statements like an analyst
A practical walkthrough of how I approach income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow when looking for real operating signals.
Analysis · Reporting
When I open a set of financial statements, I am not looking for a single number — I am looking for a story that holds together across the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
I start with trends: revenue quality, margin movement, and whether expense growth is intentional or uncontrolled. From there, I reconcile those trends against cash conversion and working-capital changes.
The goal is simple: separate genuine operating performance from accounting noise, then translate the findings into clear management-ready takeaways.
